The team of Freya Christie, Lana Rush and Maia Lumsden did very well to qualify third from the European group. Unfortunately Freya has subsequently missed the European Championships, and she is replaced for the WJT Under 14 finals by Jazzi Plews
Jazzi won 6-4 6-1 Lana lost 1-6 4-6 Maia/Jazzi won 4-6 6-1 6-1
A very good effort from the team to ensure finishing at least second in the group and 8th overall. Winning the group against the USA tomorrow, who have won the trophy for the past 4 years and yet to drop a set here, would be a major shock. The US number 1 Julia O'Loughlin was an Orange Bowl under 12 finalist a couple of years ago
We lost 2-0 to Australia, with the most significant match being the clash of the number 1s, where Lana Rush lost in straight sets to a girl who featured in one of the 'players who have slipped the net' stories earlier in the year (Naiktha Bains). We finished 7th after defeating Mexico 2-1 (wins for Jazzi and the doubles pair of Jazzi/Maia). The USA meanwhile have sauntered into the final and have won the opening match in the final, so look set to be champions for the fifth time in a row.
Not for the first time this week scores have been reversed (in this case in our doubles) and so we lost to Mexico and finish 8th. Serbia have rallied against the USA to take the title
