So far, so good for James:  he takes the first-set tie-break by 7-3.

I assume either Skupski or Marsalek was among the 5? The most likely 4 were probably Baker, Goodall, Eaton (no result yet) and the winner of the all-GB match, the least likely the other two we don't have a result for yet, Feaver and Corrie. Having said that, Corrie's opponent Botti is ranked outside the top 900.

After a few loses to Bet365 last week, Marzi at 3-1 was a bit if a bonus.

It's over-egging it quite a bit to claim today as revenge for a 0-5 drubbings the last two times we played France in Davis Cup (in 1990 and 1992), but this is the closest thing to revenge we're likely to have the chance to get for quite a while!

Can Chris make it 6-0 ...

Yes he can, he beat Cauvard 1-6 6-4 6-3, but Feaver lost to Ghedin 3 & 1.

7 Brits in the QFs!

Let's hope Chris can avenge James' defeat tomorrow:  WR 412 vs WR 304...

L16: (Q) Matthew Short WR 955 beat Lewis Burton WR 846 by 6-4 7-6(5) biggrinbleh
L16: (5) Jamie Baker WR 311 beat Yannick Jankovits (FRA) WR 856 by 3 & 3 smile
L16: Josh Goodall WR 442 beat (Q) Yanais Laurent (FRA) UNR by 3 & 0 smile
L16: (Q) Neal Skupski WR 963 beat (6) Rudy Coco (FRA) WR 389 by 0 & 4 biggrin
L16: (7) Chris Eaton WR 412 beat Simon Cauvard (FRA) WR 597 by 1-6 6-4 6-3 smile
L16: James Feaver WR 819 lost to (3) Riccardo Ghedin (ITA) WR 304 by 3 & 1 cry
L16: (WC) Edward Corrie WR 1249 beat (Q) Kevin Botti (FRA) WR 898 by 3 & 5 biggrin
L16: (WC) James Marsalek WR 928 beat Elie Rousset (FRA) WR 771 by 7-6(3) 6-4 biggrin

QF: (5) Jamie Baker WR 311 v (Q) Matthew Short WR 955
QF: Josh Goodall WR 442 v (Q) Neal Skupski WR 963
QF: (7) Chris Eaton WR 412 v (3) Riccardo Ghedin (ITA) WR 304 - H2H 1-2, but Chris won in Nottingham last year, Ghedin's wins were in 2006/7
QF: (WC) James Marsalek WR 928 v (WC) Edward Corrie WR 1249 - H2H 1-0, 3 & 3 at Ilkley this year

7 QF-ists having had only the 4th, 5th and 7th seeds is pretty brilliant! Let's just hope Ghedin doesn't go and nick the title now - after all he is the highest-ranked player left!

As things stand, Matthew Short will rejoin the GB top 25 table on Monday week (replacing Burnham Arlidge), unless Skupski or Corrie reach the Final.
