RE: Week 30 - WTA ($220K) - Washington DC, USA - Hard

Ignoring Sprem's 3rd set retirement in Estorial, Hev has lost her last five 3-setters - she could do with re-finding whatever it was that made her almost invincible in 3rd sets last year. Maybe she's just playing stronger opponents this year.

From wotshisname at the Daily Forehand: "Heather Watson is capable of dictating play a lot more than she is. In this kind of weather, you gotta put some heat on the ball."

Why it is opponents are always referred to by their surname?

I think it's a just a case of first names only being used when people are sure virtually everyone reading will know who they mean - even the Brits don't tend to get referred to by first names routinely on here until they start to get really well known.

Yes, and also you kind of have that bond with wanting the Brit to do well,  it's "our Heather" out there.  All very natural  smile

Dubois has won 9 of the first 10 points in this set - strange to see someone apparently dealing with the heat better than Heather.

Make that 11 of the first 12 (she hadn't won no points as the commentator suggested) - nice forehand to save the first of 3 bps, but Dubois wins her 6th game in a row

When heather missed all those break points in the 2nd set it didn't appear to matter too much as she was well in control. Hard to beieve how this match has turned around, but Heather looks a bit lacking in energy and Dubois is suddenly playing error free tennis

Better point, she has to move her around.

For a set and a half Heather was dominant, but Dubois was poor. Then Dubois really picked her game up and Hev started to run out of gas very quickly.

Also from TDF, he may have a point: "Heather Watson has been out practicing in peak heat all week. Should've made her ready for this, but maybe it just wore her out?"

I agree train ahead of a tournament in the heat, but don't waste energy during a tournament practising in the heat, just madness.
