Week 30 - WTA ($220K) - Washington DC, USA - Hard

This is officially Washington WTA / the Citi Open but is being held in Maryland. The draw was held in "Foggy Bottom", which turns out to be where a flagship Citibank branch is nearby.

L32: Anne Keothavong WR 95 v (8) Alberta Brianti (ITA) WR 68 (CH 55 last month)

H2H 2-0, Anne won in straight sets at Barnstaple in 2008 and at Poitiers in 2010.

L32: Heather Watson WR 104 v Eleni Daniilidou (GRE) WR 103 (CH 14 in 2003)

H2H 0-1, Daniiilidou won 6-7(8) 6-2 6-2 in Copenhagen qualifying last year.

L32: (6) Elena Baltacha WR 60 v Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) WR 141 (CH 29 in 2010)

H2H 2-2, a win each on hard courts back in Bolton & Jersey in 2005, Elena won 2-2 ret. at Eastbourne Q in 2007 and Shvedova won 2 & 2 at RG qualifying two years ago.

All winnable but none of them at all easy!

Hmm, OKish I guess.

Bally doesn't draw seeds in first rounds so that was reasonably taken care of  smile    Much for Heather may be effected by which Daniilidou turns up this week.

... especially not when she is one! smile I think she should be seeded 7, but won't know for sure until the draw goes up somewhere. She might be seeded as high as 5 because I didn't see Chak or Hercog in the pairings that were being tweeted, but I don't think they tweeted all of them.

Good draw for Bally, who should be one of the seeds, and reasonable for the other two. Hilarious that they have done the main draw before the qualifying draw confuse

I think they wanted to do the main draw in banking hours (it was done in a Citibank branch as far as I can tell) so that they could get a couple of players mingling with the customers!

Seedings for Elena (6) and Brianti (8) added into the first post.

The other seed in Elena's (3rd) quarter is (4) Dokic WR 53, Anne is in the top quarter where (1) Peer WR 24 is the top seed and the first seed Hev could meet in the 2nd quarter is (7) Mirza WR 64, with (3) Paszek WR 42 the other seed in that section.

Potential for Heather, she's got a good record on North American/Canadian hard courts.

It looks as if the start may be delayed. Elena tweeted to say it was chucking it down with rain and the 1st match on her court had not yet finished.
