Good to see that Jade Windley got an impressive win today after pushing Laura so close in the first round last week. Those results suggest she is on good form, so I'll be interested to see if she can upset Gronert tomorrow.

summer arrived in wrexham today.
lucy played out an exceptionally hard first set,and got the rewards of an easier second set. fran really played well but got no rewards, but her ranking is in for a major spike up if she continues to play like this. jade started slowly but played very well to basically break her temperemental opponent, the russian girl even used the classic medical timeout when 4-1 down in the third, but jade was too canny to let it affect her. joko played well, but tara was well off her best, however joko has picked up a niggle so that may be a factor as the tournament progresses.
naomi was very sharp this morning and has a decent outside shot at the title. mel got through without any alarms and anna eased her way through as well, alex played some high level tennis to win the second set from 5-1 down, but couldn't sustain that level in the third.

Thanks for the report Phil. Worrying that JoKo has picked up a niggle, as her career has so far been full of short injury breaks, which I'm sure has contributed to her not being much higher ranked already - let's hope this niggle doesn't develop into anything more. Naomi's next opponent (Muguruza Blanco) won a hardcourt 25K last week, so may pose a threat to her.

Anna Fitzy v Akita is on Bet365. Anna is odds against as you'd expect when playing a seed, but I reckon Anna could take this, so worth a small wager.

Good start from Anna - she got broken to love in the 3rd game but has won all the rest so far - she is 4-1* up and has 0-30 on Akita's serve.

Oops - she broke again, to love, for *5-1 but then lost the next three games (broken to 30, Akita held to love, then broken to 30 again) - now 5-4*
