Week 29 - Challenger ($50,000) - Lexington, KY, USA - Hard

Jamie Baker ended up being the last direct acceptance, so Boggo will definitely be staying in Califormia to prepare for LA. Wardy is the top seed here.

L32: (1) James Ward WR 202 v Mathieu Rodrigues (FRA) WR 347 (CH 315 in 2008), H2H 0-1, 6-2 1-6 6-3, la Roche-sur-Yon Fut 2008

The other seed in the top quarter is (8) Amer Delic (BIH) WR 246, whom he was due to practice with today.

L32: Dan Cox WR 258 v (5) Carsten Ball (AUS) WR 230 (CH 108 last Jul), H2H 0-1, 6-1 5-7 6-4, Sacramento Ch 2010

The other seed in the second quarter is (4) Fritz Wolmarans (RSA) WR 222.

L32: Jamie Baker WR 339 v Hiroki Kondo (JPN) WR 410 (CH 304 last Nov), H2H 0-0
L32: Josh Milton WR 314 v (3) Chris Guccione (AUS) WR 221 (CH 67 in 2008), H2H 0-0

The other seed in the third quarter is our old 'friend' (7) Ilija Bozoljac (SRB) WR 239.

Rodrigues has mainly played on clay this season and got beat 3&3 by Clement in Granby. After that Ward has the winner of two WC's so should be looking to make QF fairly comfortably. As for the potential meeting with Delic, will be tough but I can see James coming through that one too.

Ball has been in free fall this season bar this week where he has reached semi's in Aptos, so really it's a toss up who wins this, I favour Cox for some reason though.

I expect Baker to come through vs Kondo, who hasnt really done anything of note this season. The Gooch I suspect will be too much for Milton, but I have a feeling Jamie can take the Gooch out.

Also had Boggo flown I think he could've got in as an ALT but probably chose not worth the risk with not knowing if you're going to sneak in or not. SHame as i reckon he could've done damage here

Plenty of Brit interest in the bottom half of the doubles draw &, one way or another, it ain't gonna be easy for our boys:

R1:  Dan Cox & Josh Milton vs (4) Amer Delic (BIH) & Ken Skupski hmm

R1:  James Ward & Michael Yani (USA) vs (2) Pierre-Ludovic Duclos & Purav Raja (CAN/IND) bleh

i wouldn't get too excited about being top seed when the rank is sub 200. some futures have higher ranked players than that!

Someone needs to post that they find it very interesting that this tournament is called the Fifth Third Bank Tennis Championships.

A tweet from JB:

"Came out on top this afternoon, 64 64. Few edgy moments in some seriously hot weather. 4 shirts, 2 shorts, and a lobster red nose!"

Bakers usually do their best work in ovens.
