It seemed a strange piece of scheduling to me. The reason why the entry is weak is that it does not fit in with the other WTA tournaments, and nearly everyone heading for the USA has given it a wide berth. It makes sense for those going on to the Kazakh 100K (like Koryttseva), but not for Bally, who should at least have a bit more time in Washington now to prepare
