L16: Matthew Short WR 1007 v (4) Michael Look (AUS) WR 463
An early opportunity for Matt to avenge his defeat last week at Look's hands!
By the way, Steven, I think you may have got your maths a bit wrong in your tweet to Tennis Ireland: surely only three Brits are through to the second round, as witness the rest of your round-up...

Re. doubles - Tennis Ireland tweeted the doubles updates @ me, so it would have been rude not to post them. They also keep RTing my GB v Ireland type tweets, which seems to have got me some new Irish followers LOL
Re. counting - phew, I'm glad I can still count correctly when it only needs the fingers of one hand
Re. 'the Look' - yes, I had noticed him a few times before but he seems to be making a bid to be the new 'the Groth' the last few weeks. (in Aussie frequent Brit-basher terms)

Short, Willis, Gabb and Burton = 4
Oops! Sorry, yes, I freely admit it: it was my own maths that was at fault! I think my eye must have been misled by the sight of only three Round 2 encounters Steven posted & interpreted them as only three Brits through, totally overlooking the fact that one match involved a Brit vs another Brit (hadn't for some reason got round to highlighting Marcus' name on my draw sheet, either!)... In my defence, maths was never my strong suit at school. Took me all my time to scrape a 6 at "O" Level. Should've known better than to take this MB's premier statistician to task!

I thought O level grades went from A-E then U and it was only CSEs that had numbered grades? Or were O-level grades numbered at some point in time too?
Have no recollection whatsoever of when the switch from numbers to letters at that level occurred (never needed to know), but when I was at school (late 60s/early 70s), pass marks at O (for Ordinary) Level went from 1 to 6. That said, my most recent formal national qualification at that level (an A in Spanish following evening classes at my local FE college) was attained in the last year in which O Levels were awarded (summer of 1987). Picked up an A at A Level a couple of years later, too...
