Airsmashers, I didn't say you weren't a fan of Murray. I'm not a fan of Boggo (to state the obvious), regardless of his nationality. If Boggo proved me wrong, I'd be the first to admit it. But that will never happen - that's my whole point. Boggo doesn't have the talent to prove me wrong, and I'm not going to pretend otherwise just because he is British. I just don't understand why anybody thinks otherwise.
Jason some of the points you make are relative but some are ott. I support most british players and yes I like Alex. He is not any worse at davis cup level than Goodall who i saw against ukraine he was frankly sorry Josh awful! Why are you so angry about bodanovic he is ranked 389 in the world approx Kamke is ranked much higher and in a better place than alex at the moment. alex has been treated disgracefully by the British press yes he has choked in matches but a few years ago he out on his own as British number 2 and was ranked 108 so he is not crap! have you thought that the LTA have not supported mens tennis properly in uk for years. murray and broady both were coached outside of the lta so you may have a point!

lol if you knew the 1st thing about boggo you would know he has plenty of talent, you don't get people like Brad Gilbert saying he has the potential to be a top 40 player for nothing
Seems that you need to do some reading about Rob Dee and Adam Lownsborough
Disappointing losses for both boys today. One can claim the grass at Wimbledon is slower and slower but it's pretty impressive to go CLAY, NEWPORT, CLAY.
If you ask me. I think Jason is being particularly harsh on Kamke.
We all know Boggo is an underachiever but the Wimbledon stat is pretty boring given he drew Escude, Federer, Nadal et al... I'd say only two of his Wimbledon losses were poor (Gooch - though if his serve is firing he's a handful and Kendrick - though he was on fire against Rafa in R2 that year) the others expected.
Steven - is there a player with a worse record in grand slams?
Seems to me that tennis is 80% mental / 10% hard work / 10% talent - Boggo has the talent and hard work sorted but does lack the belief now.
Just to interrupt this bit of argy-bargy:Dimitrov & Skupski have gone down 4&4 in their match. They had 11 BPs and failed to convert any. Their Belgian opponets had 4 and converted 2!
Scottie1, I'm not sticking up for the LTA, but, to me, Boggo represents everything that is bad about British tennis. Airmashers, I hate to say it, but I was right and Brad Gilbert was wrong, Boggo hasn't made the top 40, and he NEVER WILL. I don't know if Gilbert was drunk when he said that, but I think it's more to do with the fact that he was working with the LTA, and given the media atitudes towards the sorry state of British tennis, Gilbert was probably telling people what they wanted to hear. Boggo might have a few positive features in his game, but he's nowhere near a top 40 player, in fact he's nowhere near a top 100 player! Boggo isn't a good tennis player - THAT IS AN EMPIRICAL FACT!
Ah but he has been near the top 100 his career high of 108 and if not for an injury he picked up could of well gone higher. Yes at the moment he is not playing near that level but it has been commented on further back in this thread that Alex is coming back from another injury and trying to find some form.

He should only retire when he wants to however.
I'm not being harsh on Kamke, in fact I know very little about him, except for the fact that he's an average tennis player. He may improve, and he certainlly has more chance of improving than Boggo.
I don't accept Boggo's excuses for his shameful losses at Wimbledon, in fact his excuses and your excuses on his behalf, merely prove my point. Fair enough with Federer and Nadal, but Boggo couldn't beat players such as Gooch and Kendrick because HE SIMPLY ISN'T GOOD ENOUGH TO DO SO! And he never will be. It's all well and good saying that Gooch has a good serve, or Kendrick was on form, but YOU WILL NEVER UTTER THOSE WORDS ABOUT BOGGO! It'll always be excuses like, 'oh Boggo's opponent has a good backhand', or whatever. He's just a below average guy, who should give up the ghost, and stop wasting the LTA's money.
Why do you single out Boggo for criticism Jason why not take on the rest of the British playing roster bar Muzza ? As supporters of British tennis on this board,we are not here to overly criticise players but to offer positive commentary, because players that do read this board don't want to read page after page of negative rubbish. Yes we should be fair but from a positive slant IMO.
jason apart from Murray Henman and Rusedeski recently who has been a good tennis player in britain. I read article in scottish press about andrew castle bleating on about murray and how he has to improve. it is a joke Castle was rubbish at Wimbledon and was never in top 50 as a player correct me if I am wrong! personally i am not a great fan off Cox but i still want him to succeed. Alex had to carry Englands hopes on his shoulders after Tim retired but he is not the same class as Henman. anyway jason who do you rate in british tennis apart from Murray and Broady and dont say Goulding because to me there is too much hype about him but again that is my opinion!
Turns out Boggo didn't lose to Kendrick at Wimbledon. But he does actually lead the H2H between the two
Think you'll find the word I used was "poor" about those losses. And they weren't Boggo's excuses they were mine. I actually agree with you that Gilbert said what Rodger the dodger paid him to.
Boggo uses little or none of the LTAs money.
You are being VERY harsh on Kamke.
Boggo's ranking high and "mean" is not below average given there are an average of 1600 pro male tennis players every year.
He can play for a long or as short as he wants because its got nothing to do with you!
I can accept he has underachieved but it would appear the rest of your assertions are made without any real knowledge (Kamke for one - top 64 in the world = average, riiiiggghhht!) and so your scathing criticism seems to be informed by poor journalism and a penchant for a good rumble = none of us agree with you.
Can we get this thread back on topic, please? Newport tournament only, please.
Helki did her best, Mad! I go out for an evening & all hell breaks loose! ON topic, very disappointing, not to mention profligate, that loss by Skups & Dimi. It's to be hoped that J&J can acquit themselves better later today, but given that they're playing the top seeds, I wouldn't bet on it! That said, Lipsky & Ram aren't invincible & if Big Ivo & Frankie Moser can see off Cerretani & Marx (3) in straight sets (5 & 2)...
