RE: Davis Cup 2011 - EA Zone II, Round 2 - GB v Luxembourg

To me the emotion came to the surface, because he was back in Scotland and hadn't been back in a long time. He also said he would play in September.

So you think thats the getout cause and that it wasn't a 100% sincere statement.

Yeah, He's not going to say he's not going to play/might play at the event that's somewhat in the distant future as he may well end up playing. But I wouldn't take his statement as 100 percent saying he's committed. It's right after a long stretch at the US Open, and alot of players who have played alot of matches cite injury to stop burning out and over-playing (Djokovic & Nadal pulled out of DC duty but had it been a masters more than likely have played). I hope he does play though even though I still feel we could win the tie without Andy although it would be much easier with him.

I cannot decide did Leon pick the team or was it Andy? Andy does not require to play 3 matches against Hungary there is a perfectly good doubles team in Hutchins and Fleming that can do that job. He does not need to play with his brother who was not that convincing against Luxembourg.

New DC rankings

We have dropped 50 Davis Cup ranking points in the latest list, going from 552.50 to 502.50. We got 120 new points for beating LUX but the last 25% of the points for beating NED in 2007 (i.e. 160) and the first 25% of the points for beating TUR last year (i.e. 10) have dropped off - full details, a summary of all results & DC ranking points since 2005 and links to the pages on the DC site explaining how it all works are at http://bit.ly/bi3QDD

Despite losing 50 points, we stay in 43rd place. Thailand have overtaken us but Chinese Taipei have dropped back behind us.

More than half of our remaining points (272.50) are due to drop off after the September tie, when the remaining 25% of our points for beating Croatia in 2007 are due to come off (that was our last win before the string of 5 losses in 2008-10), though 200 points are up for grabs in the Hungary tie.

Bizarrely, the September tie will be our fourth tie in a row against a country with second letter "U" and a pre-tie ranking ending in "1" - after Turkey ranked 81, Tunisia ranked 81 and Luxembourg ranked 61, we have now got Hungary ranked 51! Given that we won the previous three, we can only hope that is a good omen! smile
