I can only think of three possibilities. One of which is unlikely and 2 of which are disturning.

1. Ross didn't want to play (unlikely)

2. They simply picked our 2 highest ranked doubles players

3. Andy made clear that he wanted Jamie in the team and that it would be a factor in his future Davis Cup plans.

I imagine he picked the two highest ranked players. He would argue that that's the fairest way, most of us would argue that we should pick the team that gives us the best chance of winning.

A bit shocked, I thought the team picked itself on current form. Ross a great friend of Andy's anyway surely had to be the pick.

It does seem bizarre not picking the established doubles team, especially when they are clearly the in-form pair as well. He may have simply picked the two highest-ranked doubles players, but surely he must realise that Jamie's doubles ranking is somewhat inflated from the times he got to play with Andy? If captains weren't there to notice things like that, why would they need to be given any discretion in picking teams at all?

A possible conspiracy theory is that pressure was put on to make the team majority Scottish because it is being played in Glasgow, but that seems a bit far-fetched (surely they aren't that stupid?), as does the conspiracy theory about Andy insisting on Jamie being picked, not least because Andy has always seemed to be very close to Ross as well.

If AM was picking the team he would have said both Jamie and Ross so I don't think thats it. I guess the two highest ranked but, I personally would have taken the obvious established pairing of Ross & Colin. Have Jamie/Colin played before (especially so in DC?)

Complete mystery there with the doubles. Colin and Ross should have surely been picked as they have the best results of late.
It makes no sense.

what about Jamie needing DC matches to play at the Olympics with Andy? isn't that why Andy is playing this tie after all.

Just to be clear. I don't think Andy is picking the team but I do suspect that he has more influence than he should.

I think andy will play dubs with jamie? That would make a lot more sense, because then they can play olympics together?

Yes, clearly who's friends or not with Andy should in no way come it, and hopefully doesn't.

So I wasn't looking for Ross to be picked for that reason, ( if he is a bigger friend than Jamie smile ), just Hutchins and Fleming makes so much sense

And surely it being in Scotland wasn't an issue.

When there's arguaby not that much between the individuals surely a partnership that is beginning to get results, and is currently in the L16 at Wimbledon makes so much more sense.

Just....confuse

That is probably a good shout. Andy and Jamie in the doubles while Colin will hopefully get a singles dead rubber match as consolation,

Hmm, actually I guess if Andy is planning on playing the doubles, he may be happiest playing with Jamie, and then Colin is probably best back-up.  For some reason I hadn't factored Andy in into my doubles thoughts.

Thinking now on that, rather less  confuse

What's with the Olympics ?   Is there some qualification process based on Davis Cup ?

They don't need to actually play together in DC in order to be able to play in the Olympics together.
