Boys: Wimbledon Juniors 2011

Qualifying for Wimbledon is scheduled to start tomorrow. Oliver Golding, George Morgan, Liam Broady and Kyle Edmund are direct entrants. Judging from the qualifying draw all of the WCs at Roehampton apart from Sam Hutt will probably have received main draw WCs.  Peter Ashley withdrew and Joshua Sapwell has been handed a tough draw against the top seed and French Open quarter-finalist. There are two rounds

(1) Robin Kern (GER) v (WC) Joshua Sapwell

(WC) Robert Carter v (15) Jae Hwan Kim (KOR)

(WC) Sam Hutt v (13) Benjamin Lock (ZIM)

(5) Dennis Novikov (USA) v (WC) Joshua Page

(WC) Alexander Sendegeya v (9) Maxim Lunkin (RUS)

Kyle and Luke got one last year, but Liam only got a QWC the previous year - Liam's ranking then was similar to Josh's now (below Kyle & Luke last year) so it's consistent.

The main draw is out and Liam's draw is remarkably similar to the one in Roehampton - same 1/8 as Vesely, same 1/4 as Whittington (tho Horansky too) and same 1/2 as Oli/Mate.

Oli, as he says himself, has a horror draw - Karantsev (the Russian qualifier who beat George Morgan this week and went on to reach the semis) in R1 with the winner to play Delic (who beat Oli in the QFs this week) or (WC) Kubler, whom he edged out 7-5 in the 3rd in the same event last year - one of his biggest wins.

George is in the slightly less scary bottom half.

Ever the consummate pro, George told Liam not to look more than one match ahead, to which Liam said something like "meet you in the Final". Can't fault either of them really!
