Anne has raised her game, Naomi still looks a bit one dimensional, with as the previous post said, the odd flash of brilliance. That serve could be a real weapon, but her ground strokes are erratic and the commentators have outlined her backhand technique in particular.
Still think Naomi could become a decent player but her game needs massive amounts of work. Her movement right now is dire; she seems to react so much slower than a typical top 100 player and her feet are regularly not in the right position to hit the shot.
I watched the tail end of this game. Like Kundalini said Broady has some impressive weapons but is nowhere near consistant enough. From the bit I watched I kind of wanted Broady to fight back, because Anne has no real weapons to be a threat on grass. If Broady could learn to have a plan B other than just hitting it even harder then she could still have a decent career.
On a slightly different note, i'm assuming this was a WC vs a WC match. Does anyone else think this should be prevented from happening in the draw. It hardly seems fair that in theory (because in reality Anne has been unlucky with injuries etc) two players that don't deserve a place in the draw on merit get to play each other and one of them gets a ton of points from playing another player who's quality is sub standard to the rest of the field i.e. compare Dokic vs Schaivone to this match...
I have never looked at it that way ginger and you have a point. Then again, there are no extra points for beating the top seed other than the last direct entrant, its an equal draw points-wise. Whats more at odds are the split of pts the WTA awards for different rounds. I know they wont to encourage players to enter but, they're all out of line. Points for doubles is a crap system as well, just taking them directly from singles minus the 1st round.
I guess my point is, there's a lot wrong but the cream tends to rise to the top most of the time!
