I love that Emily has brought a new coach on board three weeks ago - to me, it underlines her professionalism and commitment to getting better when others would have given up. She's a great role model.
Always interesting to look at the bookies odds and see how they compare to my own preconceptions.
Anne is rightly comfortable favourite and I think she will have loved being drawn against a fellow British player. In the past Anne has had the responsibility of playing for the reputation of British tennis (in the media at least) and that has shown in her getting nervous. Playing Naomi, she can focus on herself as the result is less relevant to the success of British tennis. Naomi has a chance though and I wouldn't argue with the odds.
Heather I would have made slight favourite and the bookies odds agree. Heather has been so consistent this year and another performance at the same level has a fair chance of being enough to win.
I'm surprised Laura is given a 40% chance of winning. She doesn't have the best of preperations behind her but on the other hand the change of coaching arrangement might provide a boost in confidence. If Laura plays well she has a genuine chance, but I think her chances are more like 25%. If the weather is showery on Tuesday it could help Laura as her stamina has been affected by her injuries and she could appreciate a break in play during her match.
Emily and Katie rightly both considered strong underdogs and would be a genuine upset if they won.
In conclusion, I won't be betting on any of the Brits unless the bookies offer 9/4 on Bally like they did at the French
Bally has drawn Mona Barthel in the first round who is at a CH 117 in the rankings.
Bathel is in good form having qualified and won a round at Roland Garros and reaching the semis in Copenhagen, but has minimal experience on grass apart from qualifying here.
Broady vs Keothavong last on court 12- if it rains like forecast, would be lucky to get on. Also O'brien is first on court 3. Im guessing court 12 is televised btw?
Court 12 was televised for the juniors last year, so probably yes. Current weather forecast for tomorrow is for early rain to clear mid/late afternoon, so Anne and Naomis match has little or no chance of starting.
I guess Anne v Naomi is scheduled last as it is the sort of match they could move to a show court if the scheduled matches finish quickly. However, with the likely rain tomorrow it will probably not be played at all which is a shame as they are already plenty of interesting matches with Brits on Tuesday.
I think most people expect Anne to win personally I am a big fan of Naomi seen her in Edinburgh always liked her serve very impressive. I think she could cause an upset as she has had good results on grass this year.
Bally/Hev/Laura's matches all similar odds now, suggesting about 62% chance of success for Bally and Hev whereas 38% for Laura. Katie's odds have lengthened and has about a 23% chance. Emily's odds haven't changed and some money for Naomi makes hers and Anne's match about 38/62.
