Hopefully the fact she did get a game and had to beat two higher-ranked players to even get here (rather than just getting handed a QWC) will prevent that scoreline hitting Fran too hard. She did seem to getting a lot more competitive in the latter part of the 2nd set as well.
So, just Mel through - not that unpredictable given the draw, though a bit disappointing that none of the others managed to win a set - in fact, they only won 16 games between the 5 of them.

All credit to Mel. Pretty poor show from the rest regardless of rankings.
Collectively yes, I would have hoped that one other anyway would at least have got closer, indeed that just maybe we could eek out at least one other win.
Individually, each match always looked very tough to me, and no result or indeed scoreline seemed to me any great shock.

not a surprise with the results Mel good result as she is experienced at this level, some othe others a bridge too far. Disappointed in the Sam Murray score but a good learning curve
Anna is certainly capable of living at this level ( foot still not 100 %) and Tara has had a strange grass court season playing indoors in Copenhagen was an odd one for me. Sam is trying to bridge the gap between 10s and challenger level but is probably not quite there yet. Fran and Jade probably a little outclassed.
