Week 24 - Wimbledon Women's Qualifying

The GB girls have avoided the very strongest players in the draw, but most of them have drawn seeds and it's going to be very hard for most of them to get a QR1 win and the 40 points that go with it.

http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/scores/draws/us/usdraw.pdf

QR1: (wc) Samantha Murray WR 615 v Camila Giorgi (ITA) WR 173 (=CH)
QR1: (wc) Tara Moore WR 337 v (q16) Yvonne Meusberger (AUT) WR 132 (CH 60 in 2007)

Winners play each other in QR2, other seed in section is (q3) Arantxa Rus (NED)

QR1: (wc) Francesca Stephenson WR 1015 v (q15) Lesia Tsurenko (UKR) WR 131 (CH 126 in Mar)

Other seed in section: (q6) Edina Gallovits-Hall (ROU)

QR1: (wc) Anna Fitzpatrick WR 365 v (q23) Stephanie Dubois (CAN) WR 139 (CH 95 in 2008), H2H 0-1, 1 & 2, Vancouver 2007

Other seed in section: (q7) Maria Elena Camerin (ITA)

QR1: (wc) Melanie South WR 293 v Liana Ungur (ROU) WR 168 (CH 157 last Dec), H2H 1-0, 6-4 4-6 6-4, Glasgow 2007

Seeds in section: (q17) Misaki Doi (JPN) & (q8) Carla Suarez Navarro (ESP)

QR1: (wc) Jade Windley WR 685 v (q12) Sloane Stephens (USA) WR 128 (=CH)

Other seed in section: (q21) Urszula Radwanska (POL)

Confident of a couple of wins at least! Good luck girls :)

Ungur's had a bad year, with her only wins coming on clay, so hopefully she's not a grass fan.

If Sloane plays as badly as she did against EWS, Jade will be in with a shout...was hoping for a better draw for Anna, who you feel could take lots of these level players out, but Dubois could be very tricky, having just beaten Anne.

Giorgi's just won a 50k on hard, but didn't have to face anyone too amazing, and we know Sam has a good grass game, so she should feel she can take an upset, and Meusberger is not a great player, but whether Tara can deal with being moonballed back all the time I don't know. She also has an obscenely high ball toss...

Tsurenko hasn't had a great few months (including a loss to someone ranked 800), so who knows what Fran may do?

Huge good luck to all!

Tough, but at least the two non-seeds fell to players who have the game to take advantage if they play well. Ungur has not played a senior match on grass and Giorgi (though in good form recently in the USA) has only played at Felixstowe 4 years ago.

Good for Mel  smile

That did look our best chance today, and it's good to see Mel leading the day off well and great for herself.

I think it could be pretty tough for the rest of the girls, but I do really hope we can get at least one more win.

Anyone else struggling with livescores, only 4 matches currently being shown on my computer.

that's what I've got too - I just assumed others were on warm ups or clearing the courts,  but maybe there's an issue with scores reappearing once they've cleared.

Same here, Phil, on the Wimbledon site, and even on the larger scoreboard just above, that you page through, I just get the same four matches,  1 of 4,  2 of 4  etc

Threre are meant to be 16 courts in full use through the day.
