Equally quick hold for Dimitrov

6-2, 6-7, 4-6

Same old story for Evo really - shows he can match top 100 players but just lacks the mental strength to close matches out.

Looking at the stats it is hard to believe that Dan lost.

66% of first serves in

79% won on first serve
62% won on second serve

won 97 points v 91 to his opponent

Even his second set stats were better than Dimitrov's. Just one bad game at *4-3 in the second cost him his first ATP tour win.

Dimitroc clearly grew in confidence after the second set and only lost 3 points in serve in the third.

Not knowing anything about who was really showing mental strength or confidence at whatever times on the day, I'll just say that looks as if it's been a really pretty good performance overall from Evo.

Certainly looks as if he played much better than he had seemed to be recently.

Disappointed that Evo lost, particularly from a winning position - he hammered Dimitrov twice in juniors (lost just 6 games in 2 matches, including a Grand Slam) so should have had a psychological edge.

Really tough first service game for Dan Cox - 22 points, 5 DFs and eventually loses it but saved 8 break points.

Slabinsky double faults twice in a row to give Anderson first set 7-5 :(

The stats folk obviously couldn't keep up since they have him only saving 4 BPs in the whole set   smile

Anyway, the general stats do suggest that Dan got well into most games if not as competitieve as that one, so the  6 - 1 score a bit tough.

Going better second set at  * 3 - 3  and Dan had couple of BPs  ( Dung had 1 )

Young beats Cox   6 - 1  7 - 5  ( to be fair Young tried to help out by flinging in his only 3 DFs of the match in the final game and Dan had a break back point )

Anderson beats Slabinsky  7 - 5  6  - 3    ( his service points ended  44  - 6,  Slabba had very good first serve points won stats, between the two when their first serves in they won 63 / 71 points, I suspect it won't be the greatest spectacle at Eastbourne today ! )

James Ward about to start, Tipsy serving first. Tough match and will be hard to build on last week but with confidence high, who knows what might happen.
