Shame, but onwards and upwards. I think the most important thing for Laura for the remainder of the year is to stay injury free, so that next year when she can play week in week out she starts from a position where she can make a serious jump up those rankings.
I do hope Laura doesn't get dispirited, but just keeps woking away at improving her physical and match fitness again and I am sure the results will come in time,
Her serve was very clearly off today, not only the 13 DFs but only 1 ace as against Parra Santanja's 10 aces and 4 DFs.
Actually level out those serve statistics a bit, and an already decently competitive score against the WR 106 would have certainly looked even better.
I sense there's not a whole lot wrong with her game ( and as we say, with improving fitness it should certainly get better ), just could do with a break or two at the moment.
In her prevoius two defeats over the grass court season, Laura had been pretty solid on serve but struggled to make an impression on the return games.
Today she had some success on Parra Santonja's service but her own serve was struggling. The stats suggest that apart from struggling with her serve, she was probably playing resonably well.
Hopefully she can stay fit, and with increased match fitness get everything working at the same time (ideally next week).
PM wasn't working with her directly anyway. One of the Academy's coaches, a nice guy, but possibly not the right person to direct her and have her total respect was doing the day to day work. I just hope Laura takes enough time to find the right person who will be able to take her game forward, better to split now than continue on with a situation which is not helpful to her long term goal of being a top professional tennis player.
