Mmmm, Broady lost 4-6 2-6, i think, judging from what i saw in birmingham, her serve is the most important factor in her game and seeing as she had 6 aces in first 2 games and then only 8 overall in the match would indicate it wasn't a great serving day (except the beginning obviously haha!). Oh well, lets hope she can do something good at wimbledon, i do think she has the weapons to do something interesting there!
WTA are reporting that Heather has drawn world no. 3 Vera Zvonareva in R1 ...
Will be good to see Heather have another chance to test herself against one of the worlds top players, will definitely be a good experience and I guess this match will be on TV as well.
The downside is that it makes it very tough for Heather to defend all her points from last year's Eastbourne
Bally on the other hand is now going to have gone a year without meeting a seed in her first round match, i.e. the last time was when she met Li Na here last year with a great result ( that's probably done it for Wimbleom now )
In her 25 tournaments since ( incl this one ), she has been seeded herself 8 times ( generally in WTA Q or ITF ) but has not met a seed in R1 in any of the 17 times she herself was unseeded ( should be a 1 in 3 chance ). In 13 of the 16 such occasions ( so far ) she has progessed through R1. She has then 12 times out of 13 met the anticipated seed in R2 ( the recent French Open was the exception ). This largely explains the large number of R1 wins, but subsequent R2 defeats Bally has had in the last year.
