Ruth Seabourne is a 4-1 up in the 2nd set against Ling Zhang WR 222 after losing the first set.

The Melrose win means two unranked Brits (Abbi and Charlotte Phillips) will be playing for 4 ranking points in QR2. Now if only Seaborne could complete a stunning comeback against Zhang and Southall could beat Vukovic (5-5 in the 1st set) ... wink

That did look a bit too good to be true, didn't it. I mean, I know Ruth has done well in BT recently, but Zhang is top 250!

Surprised but delighted to see Mandy win so easily (tho Holly may be a bit knackered after playing loads of matches last week). Keep it up :) 

EDIT: mandy's win even more impressive given her 1st serve% was 33.

Ruth Seaborne didn't win another game from 4-1* up in the 2nd unfortunately, but still doesn't seem like a bad try against someone ranked that high.

Charlotte Phillips (who seems to be another of 'Borwell's Babes' for want of a better term - see http://www.uhcougars.com/sports/w-tennis/spec-rel/050511aaa.html) beat fellow-Brit Edita Raca 4&4, so she'll play Abbi Melrose. It would of course be typical if the Brit who gets the 4 points is just off to uni in the US so won't be adding to them any time soon, but there you go, maybe she'll come back in a few years in Samantha Murray fashion.
