James joins the long tradition of British players doing it the hard way.

He won !!!!   How many were expecting that especially after the second set ?

Loads of credit to the guy.

What a victory, and also what a match. The most exciting match I can remember watching for a while, with so many twists and turns and an unbelievable tie-break.

In the end it all wokred out for the best, as James losing the tie break only made it an even better match to watch.

Could have been worse, I suppose.

Fab win for James. Just so pleased he managed the mental side with the many challenges he faced in that match.

All Brit final coming up?

I couldn't take watching the rest of the 3rd set after Wardy went 0-2 down (was checking text updates instead) .. oh me of little faith! What an exciting match. i'm possibly even more pleased at his show of mental strength than i am at the outcome. Shame it's not nadal next, but great stuff!

Fabulous!

Magician Santoro, you'll have to alter your signature again! Bet it has never been necessary twice in one day before biggrin

Come on TMS - your sig is too short

Go on Wardy! It was my little pep talk on here last week - nothing to do from the cage fighter

Loved that comment earlier in thread about "Where's Ratty!"

Anyway, semi - final line -up :

(5) Jo-Wilfried Tsonga ( FRA ) WR 19  vs  (WC) James Ward ( GBR ) WR 216

(3) Andy Roddick ( USA ) WR 10  vs  (2) Andy Murray ( GBR ) WR 4

which begs the inevitable,  when was the last time GB had 2 semi finalists in a main tour event ?

I expect it happened sometime when Tim and Greg were both playing.

I know I haven't posted for a while here, but I have to add my congratulations to James here. Absolutely fantastic stuff. I missed the end of the 2nd set as our youngest had a bathroom accident, so glad that wasn't the beginning of the end. Surely tough tomorrow, but who knows! wow.

Rotterdam 1999 (someone on Twitter beat me to it! ashamed)

A slightly more dodgy stat, but one I like nevertheless, is that Wardy is now on a 3-match winning streak against GEMs while Tsonga is on a 3-match losing streak against Brits (all Muzz, obviously)

Certainly not I, still less after he went down 0-2 in the third!   Digging himself out of a hole like that should do his self-belief & confidence a world of good.  Words fail me - almost... wink  What a gutsy perfomance!

Just one plea, in case the Queen's organisers happen to read this board:  I'd absolutely love it if someone, anyone, would stop those "Hooray Henry" tossers from calling out  "Jamie" in the fond hope that they are encouraging "their" man, James.  Just because Messrs Baker & Murray happen to go by that particular form of the Christian name, it doesn't automatically follow that Dino does as well!
