Slightly frustrated that the media hasn't given him a great deal of attention although of course have to not interrupt his preparation for tomorrows, winnable. match.
You know that if in a couple of weeks the 3 WC's have lost their opening games then the media will have their annual tennis bash when perhaps things aren't as bad as they have been.
Wardy did have a short interview on Five Live around 8.30 this morning. Didn't talk much about the Wawrinka match, but did go into his new coaching situation with the cage fighter(?) coach. He talked about some changes to his diet - not eating packets of choc biscuits in the evenings - and a little about how demanding this new coach is (very by the sound of it!). Sounds like Wardy has a very similar set-up to Bally and Nino Severino, hopefully they'll have similar results.
what the hell is going on with these stats at the bottom of the guardian article (it also says Ward is currently 216 in the main body of the text):
Men
1. Daniel Cox Age 20 Ranking 273 (Highest ranking 273). Debut in Wimbledon main draw
2. Daniel Evans Age 21 Ranking 602 (Highest ranking 466, February 2011). First round in 2009
3. James Ward Age 24 World No 258 (Highest ranking 240, June 2010). First round in 2009
Oh and not to blow my own trumpet but i told all you guys last week that Ward has a fighter as a fitness coach
The figures for Evo and Wardy are doubles rankings & CHs - the odd thing is, the Independent did the same thing with Katie - "Reading The Independent over breakfast and apparently I reached my career high ranking of 174 in Oct 2007?! Er...slightly wide of the mark!" - those are doubles figures too.
It suggests there is a press info sheet going around which either has the rankings the wrong way round or makes it to easy to read them that way by mistake.
You'd think tennis journalists would think "hey, that looks wrong" and recheck, especially for someone like Katie who everyone knows has been top 100, but at this time of year, not all tennis journalists are really tennis journalists, if you see what I mean!
Edit: By "Guardian article," you mean the Independent article don't you? (just checked it), in which case it is just one journalist/researcher getting it wrong rather than a circular having gone out from the LTA or whatever.
Still, it seems like the LTA aren't the only people who don't make a distinction between doubles and singles.
