Steven how many brits have secured wins over non brits this week?

Taking Queen's, Birmingham and Nottingham, Q & MD combined, I think the split in GB v non-GB matches is approximately 8-34, made up as follows:

1-2 in matches where the Brit was higher-ranked (Naomi beating Kops-Jones but Laura upset by Pliskova and Jamie B upset by Gregorc)

0-2 in matches where both players were unranked

7-32 in matches where the Brit was lower-ranked - upset wins for Boggo x 2, Hev v Scheepers (not really an upset, but there you go!), Naomi B v Stephens, Abbi Melrose v a very out of form Hubacek, Marcus Willis v Mitchell and Christopher Simpson v Huey.

I think it's difficult to argue that that's really damining.  Of the just two defeats to lower ranked players Laura's was to a not very much lower ranked and in all circumtances not a huge shock ( to me anyway ). Though to be fair one or two of the 7 wins against higher ranked oponents were also in no way shocks.

I expressed disappointment yesterday at the weekend as I added yet another "0" in my points sheet for the top British players this week before the week had really started.

Someone replied to the effect that yes, but could we really have expected much more and in truth the answer was no.  In truth like many, I just hoped for more though.

Basically we'd love better results, but in the most part I have little doubt the players  have competed just about the best they can with ragards to their form and commesurate with their ability and ranking.

thanks for the stats mate, makes it pretty stark, playing at 'home' on a surface we should, in theory at least, have an advantage on and we can't even muster a 20% win rate :(

As many mention, and I've said so many times I'm even boring myself, it's a shame we have so few events and most of them end up being ridiculously strong due to Wimby.

GB players have won these 7 matches against higher ranked oppponents.

I do not honestly think that the home and surface advantage are so great that we can reasonably expect a whole lot better in overcoming the rankings differences, which in a lot of these matches has been really big.

Basically the issue is the huge one of the general level of our players, not an issue with their performances this week.
