Not been a great day for the men resultswise, given in Nottingham the Bloomers / Marsalek section was all Brit and always going to provide a British qualifier and only Boggo is through to the FQR at Queens.
Maybe not great but kinda expected. Many of the better players have already been given WC's to Queen's and also Nottingham so Boggo getting to the FQR is a reasonable effort i'd say. Maybe Eaton and Josh could've done better but all the other players got to where i expected them to get.
So I see. About bloody time, yet the LTA still can't be @rsed to update the qualy draw sheet! Unbelievable in this day & age! The only Brit qualifier will be Bloomers or James Marsalek...!
This is the LTA we are talking about. We should consider ourselves lucky that info ever appears on their website.
True, RJA, true. In evidence, the fact that that the LTA still can't be @rsed to post an up-to-date qualy draw, yet it's now available on the ATP site...

OOP is also on there. James v Richard is fourth match on court 2.

In fact, only three GB men beat non-Brits, though they were all higher-ranked non-Brits - unranked Christopher Simpson beating doubles specialist Treat Huey WR 802 here, Marcus Willis beating up-and-coming 18yo Aussie Benjamin Mitchell WR 426 at Queen's and both of Boggo's wins at Queen's, which were very encouraging - clearly he would still be ranked a lot higher if he didn't keep getting back problems.
Perhaps the low success rate is inevitable given that most of the Brits were among the lowest-ranked players in the draw because any Brits ranked in the top 320 were given main draw WCs, but home players have tended to be a bit more successful in these events in the past so it is disappointing.
Particular disappointments were Jamie B's QR1 loss in Nottingham when he was seeded to reach the FQR and went a set up (admittedly he was playing an ex-top 200 player so it was never going to be easy) and the frustration (which no doubt the player himself feels a lot more deeply than we do!) of Chris Eaton's thrashing at the hands of Matosevic at Queens - like spud, I was very hopeful that now he is finally doing well in the bread and butter events more often, he might do better than ever in the bigger grass court events. I don't know if there are still questions over whether he is fully fit - very unlucky for him if he isn't.
Of course there were encouraging signs from a couple of the youngsters too - Liam Broady's win over Josh Milton, for example (I've got nothing against Josh at all, obviously, but at this point Liam is the better prospect so it's good to see him beating players ranked well above him even if they are British - and very sad that he then got injured in QR2) and George Morgan beating Sean Thornley (similar reason, again nothing against Sean at all) and then pushing a former top 10 player so close in the 2nd set.
I just wish (as I'm sure the players do!) that the decent performances could be converted into ranking points.

Where the heck did Montcourt come from? Not in the BOB or Queens?

Late night losing of the plot - it was Matosevic of course, Montcourt hasn't even played for a couple of years!

Unfortunately there is a reason for that Steven: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/8143176.stm

Oh yes, of course, that was terribly sad.
That might explain the mystery of why his name was in my head - while I was catching up on the results I'd missed while I was out last night, I was half-listening to French radio and they were doing a preview of the men's final and then talking about French tennis generally - I bet they mentioned him and the name stuck in my head.
(in case you're wondering on earth why I was listening to a bunch of GEMs, it's not quite as strange as it sounds - it helps to maintain my ability to understand the spoken language when I haven't had the chance to be in the country for a while - and if they're talking about something I'm interested in, so much the better!)
