QR1:  Christopher Simpson vs Treat Conrad Huey (PHI)

QR1:  (qWC) Scott Whitbread vs (q7) Michail Elgin (RUS) bleh

QR1:  (q2) Frederik Nielsen (DEN) vs (qWC) Joe Salisbury bleh

QR1:  David Martin (USA) vs Keelan Oakley

QR1:  (qWC) Luke Bambridge vs Rudy Coco (FRA)

QR1:  Luka Gregorc (SLO) vs (q6) Jamie Baker

QR1:  Lewis Burton vs David Rice hmm

QR1:  Yves Allegro vs (qWC) Scott Sears bleh

QR1:  (q4) Josh Milton vs Liam Broady hmm

QR1:  James Marsalek vs Harry Meehan hmm

At least we have five guaranteed representatives in the second round!  Never heard of Westgate, Simpson, Whitbread, Meehan or Rogers...!

Burton vs Rice is a good match up!

Would like to see Burton do something here after some nice results in SA, showed so much talent at last years Wimbledon in juniors

Yes, I think that's the most interesting of the GB match-ups - that and another of the still-quite-young v junior Wimbledon doubles finalist matches, Milton v Broady.

Stating the obvious, we have a guaranteed qualifier, since the Milton through to Bloomers section is all-GB. It'll be interesting to see whether Marsalek can make any waves in that section, though I fear he may yet again play well and get no reward in terms of ATP points, since in men's Challengers you only get points if you actually qualify.

I may never have heard of Westgate or Simpson, but I figured that, if they were anything like half-decent singles players, they might well stand a ghost of a chance against doubles specialists & so it's proving, at least as far as Chris is concerned - for now:  he's leading Huey by 7-5 & (possibly) *2-1.  I say "possibly" because the bloody scoreboard appears to have frozen yet again (obviously determined to carry on next week where it leaves off this week! disbelief  ) at 1-1* 40-30 in the second... furious

Marc stands at 4-3* in the first, so he's holding his own.

The LS is un-bloody-believable!  One minute it's frozen, the next it's showing that Marc lost to Sanchai Ratiwatana by 6-7(3) 1-6, but offering no clue to Chris' fate in the results section!  I'm assuming he won, as Burton vs Rice is now under way on the same court.

I'll second that. I hesitate to say we'd be better off without it (clearly we wouldn't, and I'm glad they're trying to provide scores) but it's not far off and I can't really understand why it works so randomly here when they must be using the same technology as they do at higher level events.

Jamie B takes the first set by 6-3, but the LS, as frustrating as ever, has only just creaked on in Burton vs Rice match from 1-0* after 4 minutes & 32 seconds to get stuck yet again at 5-4* 40-30 to Lewis (40:30)! disbelief

Lewis Burton is/was poised to take the first set by 6-4 when the curse of the frozen LS struck again.  Jamie B *2-5 in the second. cry

Crazily, you get the same points for qualifying here as you do at Queen's (5 - another drawback of Queen's only being an ATP 250 event and having a 56 draw but an unusually strong field), but with results like that, it seems like our boys are determined to gain points (or not) the hard way ...

Of course, you get a lot more money for winning qualifying rounds at Queen's!
