Safarova serves out to love, which may have been just about the easiest game she had in the match, and edged ahead on overall points 106 - 103 just at the end.

6 - 4   5 - 7   3 -  6    cry

That's an exceptiopnally good looking, competitive performance though from Jo, following up very good stuff in qualifying.

Safarova is WR 38 with a CH of 22 in 2007, and coincidentally currently ranked 22 in the WTA race.  She has beaten top 10 players this year including Jankovic a few weeks ago in Madrid.

Wherever that has come from this week, Jo, hold on to it !!

Yes, lest anyone take my earlier Aus-morphing-into-Brit-before-our-eyes quip seriously, that looked like a very impressive performance.

Amazing scoreline from Jo. Can't quite understand why she does not have a Wimbly qWC.

To be fair to the LTA, although she has clearly shown before that she has real talent, Jo hadn't done a lot this year prior to this week, and most particularly today.

She has been dropping down the rankings, and quite apart from the fact that she isn't British as yet, only 2 British girls given QWCs ( Tara and Fitzy ) are ranked lower than her and not by much.

She also hasn't entered grass court tournaments in the build up to Wimbledon.

I honestly can understand her not having a Wimbledon QWC, and don't myself see it as any big issue.

Not entering any grass tournaments didn't stop Morgan Phillips getting a qWC last year, so that's not the issue unless the LTA *gasp* are not consistent.

Konta won a 50K last year and it's only red tape stopping her from being British from what I hear.

And don't even get me started on the ludicrous rules which have dictated only three British players have recieved qualifying wild cards.

A very impressive performance by Jo, and she may yet end up with a qualifying wildcard if she wants one, given that 3 are unallocated at present

As far as I am aware the outstanding QWCs have not been publicly announced.  Maybe she can get a non-Brit QWC

OK, yes, I doubt that too.  But if they literally haven't been decided yet, after today, you never know.

Edit :  I see it's passed David's thoughts as well.

Just a quick note that Barthel, who beat Tara in QR1, went on to beat Mladenovic in straights to on her way to qualifying and has now taken out 5th seed (top 50) Zahalavova Strycova in straight sets too!

And beat Mattek-Sands to reach the semis.

It was a good performance from Johanna. She is much better than her ranking. She just seems to play random odd events. I hope she plays the 2 british 25ks post wimbledon to get some points on the board.
