Week 22 - Challenger - Nottingham (Great Britain) €64,000 - Grass

LTA have the Qualy draw up

http://www.lta.org.uk/NewWebsite/LTA/Documents/Fans%20News%20and%20Major%20Events/Results/2011/Nottingham-Festival-of-Tennis/AEGON-Trophy/Mens-singles-qualifying.pdf

Going to be very hard for anyone to qualify with some of the seeds.

I'd say Boggo and Eaton have the best chance as long as their matches are played on the grass rather than moved indoors due to weather

both boggo and eaton are solid indoors so that shouldnt be a problem. although typical boggo luck being in top seeds section, at least not 1st rd tho.

i''ll be there tomorrow, will try and tweet updates but no promises cause sometimes i get too wrapped up in it to remember.

Still a bit of a mystery over who is going to get the last WC. If it is going to a Brit, the five highest-ranked Brits who are not in qualifying are:

- Josh Milton, who looks like the prime candidate if he can get back from South Africa, where he should be playing his Final now

- Jamie Baker, who is on a plane back from Korea at the moment (he tweeted before he left "Short grass court season coming up, ready to go for it" but whether that means a short grass court season because he is starting it a week late or just that the grass court season is short anyway is hard to know!)

- Josh Goodall, surely not, but surprised not to see him in qualfying unless he is injured

- David Rice, who curiously is not in the qualifying draw, whereas his partner in crime Sean is

- Alex Ward, who may not have been able to get back from South Africa in time for qualifying sign-in

Maybe Milton was going to get it but can't get back in time so it has gone to Dr No and that's why he's not in qualifying, but it's still anybody's guess.

Liam has a rematch with the boy who beat him at Wimbledon last year. Kudla went on to the US Open final and has advanced into the ATP top 500 since then though.

Must surely be injured. He has done very little this year to warrant a WC and he is defending 38 of his 80 points over the grass court season so it would be shocking for him not to be in qualifying here for any reason other than injury. He desperately needs a good grass court season if he has any aspiration of getting his singles carear back on track.

I think Boggo, Eaton and the winners of Bloomers/Ward will make the main draw. (Its great having this outlook!)

Josh has effectively retired from singles this year, he claimed, with most concentration on his doubles and will just play singles while he is still ranked high enough to compete.

Recently he has not been injured but playing in the French league's in Paris, not sure if it is the same as Fitzpatrick.

It's a shame if he actually has the intention of retiring, but i'm not sure if he was being 100% serious, it is strange that he is not taking part in Nottingham but maybe the constant travelling and staying in poor conditions has finally taken it's toll, I know that in the past he has been very upset at hotels where he has stayed and even tanked some of his matches just so he could leave. Just goes to show there is a lot on behind the scenes in the lower realms of tennis which influence people's decisions.

I didn't take his "retirement" comments entirely seriously if he doesn't make a major effort over the next two months I will probably chamge my mind on that.

I guess that some players enjoy touring (which inevitably includes the occasional rough hotel while other players don't.

Boggo won 2 and 3. Was pretty comfortable according to the Count.

Haha Goodall clearly reads this forum

He tweeted: Won 50k on the lottery. Cant believe it. 5numbers, think i'll just focus on mixed doubles this summer & stay at the Ritz. Cant wait. :)

Come on Josh we're not stupid now, everybody knows that the lottery is done on Wednesday and Saturday's! Maybe he should take up comedy instead of tennis, then if he hit the big time he could stay in the Ritz every week wink
