tres economical, golding takes the break at the first opportunity, serves at 3:1 on the third.

And is promptly broken straight back cry

3-2*

maybe i should just update when serves are *held* at this point. giron gets the break back, somewhat predictably at this point. 4 breaks in a row!

hey guess what, RJA? that's right, it's ANOTHER break! 13th in the match, by my count. oli up 4:2, but can he consolidate is the question.

yes he can! (w apologies to obama)

probably be best to break for it now, and not rist the heretofore dodgy prospect of another service hold.

and break for it he does. golding wins 6:3 3:6 6:2 to make the qf's against another yank, bjorn fratangelo (not a very american sounding name though).

Perhaps someone with the capacity so to do should point out to the BBC live bloggers that the 3rd round win sends Mr Golding into the QFs, not the 4th round. The latter is what they are reporting.

L16: (4) Oliver Golding JWR 4 / ATP 970 beat Marcos Giron (USA) JWR 40 / ATP 1090 by 6-3 3-6 6-2 smile.gif

QF: (4) Oliver Golding JWR 4 / ATP 970 v Bjorn Fratangelo (USA) JWR 21 (CH 13 in Jan) / ATP 1405

Oli, the first Brit to make the RG boys' QFs since Andy Murray in 2005, is now the top seed left in the boys' draw, but Fratangelo thrashed him 2 & 0 at Trofeo Bonfiglio a couple of weeks ago - hopefully Oli will be a bit more up for this one!

Thanks, Steven.

Mr Golding is showing consistent solid results.  Glad to hear about the hard work and the apparently wise choice to move where the coaching would be most helpful.

There are only two seeds left in the Boys Singles. Oli (4) and Dominic Thiem (14)
