I think I read that Falla's in as a DA now following a few withdrawals. Maybe Bloomers will get a wildcard after all
Unfortunately, the problem with the men's WCs is that while there are plenty of main draw WCs yet to be given out, they aren't going to go to Brits, and there are only 3 QWCs left, with at least 2 earmarked for playoff finalists and, as the Count brought up the other day, one probably earmarked for last year's boys' winner Fucsovics.
I mean, they could justify giving a MD WC to Bloomers on the basis that he's the highest-ranked Brit not to have got any kind of WC yet and the only one above him who hasn't got a MD WC is Milton, who lost to Liam Broady in QR1 in the Nottingham qualifying section that Bloomers won and, unlike Josh, Richard has shown that he can perform at ATP level (Newport semis and a Wimbledon R1 win, for example), but we all know they aren't going to do it. (*) I would of course love to be proved wrong!

Sounds fair enough. Also not going to happen, I'm afraid!
A bit more inside info on the playoffs - the Wardinator beat Toby Martin in straights, the other two men's QFs had started when the rain came and will resume at the NTC at 5 pm.

David Rice def James Marsalek 6-2 6-2 Alex Ward def Toby Martin 6-3 6-4 Dan Smethurst def Josh Goodall 6-2 6-7 6-4 Neal Skupski lost to Morgan Phillips 7-6 6-3
So the 'Finals'
David Rice v Alex Ward Dan Smethurst v Morgan Phillips
It's been quite a week for Brits we've kind of thought of as (in Brits terms, at least) clay court specialists - Wardy at Queen's, Wardinator and Smethurst here (plus Phillips getting to the SFs too) and Fran Stephenson beating two seeds to get one of the women's QWCs!

It does seem to be the case that some good clay court players can take to grass more than one would expect : for instance, a certain Rafael Nadal who certainly now appears happier on clay and grass than he is on hard.
