I don't think that anyone seriously believes that the LTA should be handing out wild cards to 7 or 8 British players just for the hell of it.
I actually do.
By that I obviously don't mean that they should just get hold of anyone from the streets and give them a WC. But I do think that right now there are enough players out there who can hold their own against top players on their day. Do note that 5 years back there were more such players (Marray, Sherwood, Parmar, Lee etc. were more than capable of beating top 100 guys) but they are gone now - maybe not a coincidence?
And if that isn't the case, there's another simple solution - trade. There are dozens of countries hosting top level tennis tournaments, surely they can find four or five which will exchange wild cards?
