RE: Wimbledon wild cards 2011

To be honest when I watched Smethurst he looked more like a hardcourter than claycourter, forehand wasn't that loopy and lots of slice on the backhand

Ah yes, but to be a British 'clay court specialist' just means sometimes choosing to play on the red version when there are other options available and winning the odd match on the devil dust! wink

Do you know i've not been able to find this website for about 2 years. Doh

I['ve just been frantically trying to find the mens Q WCs and now i find here again.

Long may the chat continue.

I'm slightly baffled at the choice fo the 2 Dans for MD WC's but i suppose its to limite the embarassment of having only 2 men in the MD

In case you're wondering why you couldn't find us Sheddie forgot to pay for the britishtennis.net domain renewal and some internet punk bought it, so entry is now through the activeboard links etc... We lost a few people at the time but most have found their way back now

Remaining three MD WCs ( as per Neil Harman tweet ) :

Dudi Sela, Gilles Miller + 1 direct

Presumably couldn't think of anyone else so hey let's basically have 7 WCs instead of 8.

According to MTF the draw is at 6pm today.

Last main draw WCs go to Dudi Sela (won Nottingham Wk 2), Gilles Muller (won Nottingham wk 1) and next one in

I wonder when was the last time a country gave a WC into a big tournament just before the tie to one of the players on the opposing team for no apparent reason ...

(I guess the real reason is because he's moved up into the top 100 since the cut-off date, but still)

i'm pretty perplexed and borderline infuriated by these latest WC offerings. so is oli golding. per his tweets...

"Why do we give so many foreigners wc's ?" he asked. then after he retweeted the criticism "@BenTennis95: @Jackk321 too true, its bad how brits like @oli_golding, think that they shud automatically get a wc.'" he replied "I never said I should get one .. My point is that you don't see brits being given them into foreign tournaments and I wud rather them go .... To other Brits not foreigners"

i completely agree with oli here.

Oli has certainly started a tweet debate re why foreigners get so many WCs.  He also makes the point Brits don't get them in foreign tournaments.

I pointed out that Brits are hardly shouting out a case for foreign WCs and anyway 22 out of 34 Wimbledon WCs went to Brits.

Personally, I'd say folk might argue about individuals but I'm fine with the split.

Next thing Indy you will be making a case For Jamie Murray to get a Wc in the singles lol as a former MD winner. After seeing him play Ian Flanagan in Edinburgh a few yeras ago I realised why Jamie gave up singles
