Damn. Was hoping for a win there for Tara. This will put her at a new career high, which is always good, but she's played a lot of tournaments this year doing OK but without ever really exceeding expectations. While she was seeded to lose this match the difference in rankings wasn't huge. It must be frustrating for her to have come so close.
She gets a bit overshadowed by fellow '92bie Watson but I'm a bit of a Moore fan so would love to see her kick on with a big win or two. Maybe next tournament.
Yes, I would like Tara to push on and get herself into the top 300.
She has though in the reasonable short term, got quite a lot of points to defend from the end of July onwards, a 6 tournament stretch of 83 points in 6 tournaments, when she consistently got points in the teens. It would be nice as was said if she could break out of that and get bigger points, in 20s and above. So near this week.
Relatively last year she didn't make that many points in the first half of the year with the bulk of her points second half. Thus, even with some injury issues and maybe not playing as well as she would have liked this year, she has surpassed last year's first few months haul and will move to a new CH of about WR 330 after Roland Garros ( without adding anything else ).
Her points breakdown will be :
July to Dec 2010 : 94 Jan to May 2011 : 41 Total : 135
She will really kind of need to be playing top 300 level tennis in the remainder of this year just to hold steady around her new ranking by defending these 94 points from the second half of last year. However, it would be great if she can surpass that and move her actual ranking sooner rather than later into the top 300. WR 300 is currently on 169 points.
What Tara really needs is a good second half of the year and then next year finally add a good first half as well to push up her overall ranking.

Getting better as the week moves forward. I just wonder whether Naomi knew the importance of yesterdays win and now with the shackles off she can play with less pressure.
