Bally withdraws. Perhaps protecting the back, or maybe just because she has now covered the points?

Oddly, the WCQ for Fitzy seems to have been withdrawn. Mel no longer needs hers so it has gone to Lucy, but that only makes 5 and both the LTA and ITF now agree that Anna won't have one. She may not need one, but still seems odd...LTA lists 'qualifying alternates' (presumably if someone else moves up to Q by right) as Stephenson, Borthwick & Horn.

Would certainly have thought it must be more the back / some other issue with Bally.

I mean she's not overplayed recently, and there's no real logic in pulling out just because she has more than covered her ranking points from last year for the Roland Garros fortnight. You basically go for what you can get, and I would think all being well she'd want to get bedded in again on grass asap.

Anyway, hope it's at worse just a precautionary measure for next week.

That's annoying. With the way she's been playing, Bally had a shot at the title here. I hope it's tactical, and with all the clay court training this year, she's decided to spend more time on a practice grass court than a match court to begin with. Chance for Anne to become the third Brit in the top 100 though!

In the BBC interview on their website Bally mentioned that she was entering the grass court season injury free and in good condition so that's very good news. Maybe she felt that after a busy clay court season she wanted a few days rest then some grass court practice before playing a tournament.

Q Draw is out. My fears were not realised, a rash of withdrawals means lots of Brits, many unranked, including Seaborne in as the only WC! No Anna tho :(

Quite a few are still in RG doubles. I think Niculescu, Hradecka, Rodionova, King, Hlavackova, Cirstea, Chan and Krajicek and another will be the players that have withdrawn.
