She battled right to the end as always but McHale is becoming an very annoying opponent.

Cibulkova and Georges have both just withdrawn, any chance of a LL?

I don't know how they decide it in WTA.  But there are already two qualifying seeds that have lost in FQR ( Kerber and Pous-Tio ) so think they might take priority over a non seed like Heather.

Not unless there are more withdrawals - there are plenty of girls losing FQR with a higher ranking than Heather. ATP and WTA rules are the same - only grand slams have any randomness.

Heather and Christina have certainly been very close opponents, just a pity to lose out twice, but looks as if as per usual no lack of fight on Heather's part.

Interesting match statistics in that with level service games many more points played on Christina's service games than Heather's service games  ( 99 - 67 ) , so clear where most of the longer games were .    She didn't have more BP chances in total  ( taking 8 /14 as against McHale's 6 / 14 ),  but in the final set where the different length of games was most marked she managed  1 / 3  angainst McHale's  2 / 2.  Total points won were 85 - 81  in McHale's favour.

Basically good stuff from Heather, she is playing at a consistent high level, I suspect just as well as earlier in the season when she was playing on a different surface and I feel just getting more good running of draws etc.  eg.  she probably lost a great deal of points from the previous McHale loss from not just that defeat but what certainly looked like it would have been at least one further win.

Not much to be bothered about with Heather.  Hard luck, girl.

McHale earned a further 70 ranking points, giving 100 in total, by beating Shuai Peng  6 - 3  2 - 6  7 - 6 (7)  in R1, before losing  6 - 3  6 - 1 to Schiavone in R2.

So not as obviously really good points winning chances missed as in Heather's previous close loss to McHale.  McHale's tight defeat to Peng looks a really good effort against a player who has been in very good form.
