Wow, check out the LTA website for a picture of Emily W-S using a full Eastern grip on her forehand.

I thought they went out with Jonny Mac...

Sorry to answer my own post, dashed poor form I know, but I had another look at the pic ...

The grip is so extreme that a "normal" semi-western grip player would actually hit the ball on the other side of the racquet, if you see what I mean.

Highly bizarre. No wonder she likes grass and carpet, but fair play to her ...

Just to add a bit to Peter's post, Katie is seeded 8 and has a 1-1 H2H against Lee, who is now ranked 288 (CH 178 in 2008) - both previous meetings were in 25Ks in Australia in 2007, both straight sets wins, with Katie winning the first and Lee the second.

Emily beat her opponent (now ranked 250) 3 &1 in Sydney in January.

EWS tweeted to say she won 4-6 6-2 6-0. A good turnaround after the first set.

That results should put her in the top 260 and give her a new CH. biggrin

Katie's tweet 'Today's match started with 7 breaks of serve. I'd like to think it was due to the quality of returning but it really wasn't. Anyhow, I won!'

According to ITF, Kato is 6.00m tall. No wonder she beat the 4th seed in R1.

As well as almost certainly taking out her 6 year old career high smile.gif (which will mean she and Samantha Murray take out the two oldest career highs among currently ranked GB women simultaneously), as SMC says, that win puts Emily up to provisional GB no. 5 ahead of Cav and Laura, though obviously Laura can retake her by winning today - barring a very deep run by Mel, whoever goes furthest out of Emily and Laura will join the GB top 5 on Monday.

Katie has a 2-0 H2H against Takao (who had a career high of 128 in 2006), both 3-setters, the most recent in Sydney earlier this year.
