R32: James Ward WR 217 v Conor Niland (IRL) WR 151

Pretty decent draw for James as Niland is having a very tough year (3-7 at Challenger level, including Sarasota). H2H is 0-1 as Niland beat James 3 and 3 back in 2008 on clay in a GB Futures QF. Niland has played 2 Brits this year, losing 4 and 4 to Evans at the Bath Challenger and beating Smethurst 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3 in Casablanca ATP qualifying.

I agree that it's a decent draw, but James is actually 3-8 in Challengers this year, so is having just as tough a time.

Bad day for Dan, but he's pretty poor on clay regardless

No has said, but what happened in Tony Mule's next game? I'm guessing that him and Dan Regan are two more Brits in the US college system. Seems like they aquitted themselves pretty well here. You never know, maybe one day soon we'll get a John Isner type coming out of this

Tony Mule had a bad day all round:  he & his American partner, Eric Martin, lost the qualifying round of the doubles to the only seeds, Tomislav Peric (CRO) & Dino, by 2 & 2! wink

R1:  Juan Pablo Brzezicki & Victor Estrella (ARG/DOM) vs (Q) Tomislav Peric (CRO) & James Ward

So James has had an early opportunity to get his eye in on the green clay of Savannah.  Never heard of Peric.  Anyone know anything about him?

FQR: (q7) Morgan Phillips WR 441 beat (q3) Michael Yani (USA) WR 323 by 7-6(5) 6-2  biggrin

... but ... (and switching to today's rankings)

L32: (Q) Morgan Phillips WR 431 v (8) James Blake (USA) WR 109

You'd think clay was the surface to get former world no. 4 Flake on, but of course he won the Sarasota Challenger last week.

Morgan wasn't the only one to get a very good win today:

L32: James Ward WR 218 beat Conor Niland (IRL) WR 149 by 2 & 1 biggrin

Even taking into account the fact that Conor has been going through a similarly tough time in Challengers to James, that's some scoreline. smile.gif

"I won today v conor niland 6.2 6.1!! Dominated from beg- end!! Liking the faster clay this week and hope to push on now...play again wed"
