If she can sustain this form into the grass court season. Why not. Heading towards the top 250 at a fast rate of knots, so will get it being inside that mark on merit.
@ews24 Emily Webley-Smith 2-3 on centre court for my semi.big rain and thunder.to wait or not to wait is the question...think ref will say indoors soon :(
"I won I won!after 4hrs and being down matchpoint 3 times :) it came down to guts and fitness, toughest match of my life....'And so hold on when there's nothing in you except the will which says to them hold on'"
Clearly been eating too many Kipling cakes
Congrats on her fist 50K final, where she will take on Katie's conqueror Sachie Ishizu, who has lost just 9 games in her last 3 matches.
If you ever say that to her in person, it's probably best to put it in context. I'm not so sure saying stuff like that to female tennis players (or women in general) often goes down too well.
Great stuff from Em though, really good to see her getting some top results after a lot of effort. (and air miles)
Brilliant result - she'd have been kicking herself had she let such a good chance to reach a 50K Final slip through her fingers, so great that she fought hard enough to make sure of it.
Out of the GB women who currently have WTA rankings, the two oldest career highs are Emily's 262, set nearly 6 years ago in June 2005, and Samantha Murray's 807, set in September 2006 - Samantha is currently ranked 809 and likely to take out her CH on Monday week, while this week's exploits will take Emily to within 10 places of her CH. Obviously Emily would reach a new CH on Monday if she won the Final, but Ishizu is in frighteningly good form this week and must be fresher having had such quick matches, so I'd be (very happily!) stunned if Emily could get past her tomorrow.

Would it be fair to say that Ms Webley-Smith currently has the best Wimbledon singles MD record among active women? I read a 50% win rate . . . .(OK, so she was only in once . . . but still!)
Congratulations to Emily who has battled so hard in her career despite so many serious injuries and setbacks. Often going out on her own, she has shown that perseverance and sheer grit and determination can pay off. Best of luck in the final - all will be crossed for you.
So happy about this! Given that in (i think) 2009, Em failed to beat anyone ranked over her, this is a pretty remarkable turnaround, and one which hopefully the likes of Mel & Mandy can take heart from. Also should give people like Fitzy, with endless injury layoffs, inspiration to keep coming back (though she doesn't seem to need it). What a shame Katie had to meet Ishizu so early tho! She never gets much luck in the draws...
Fantastic Em , really showing the way. This form she has shown over the last 6 weeks or so I would doubt could be matched from earlier in her career. I assume the CH of 262 included big points from her win at Wimby. Would be great to see her get a chance to play the main draw at Wimby again and in this form she would definitely not disgrace herself. As Steven said winning the final would be a major shock but if it comes down to guts and determination I know who I would have my money on.
