Week 17 Challenger - Leon, Mexico - $35K+H (Hard)

I have been reliably informed that Coxy tanked this so that he could fulfill his commitment of attending the royal wedding.

Err... this loss shows that his ranking flatters him a little bit. That, or he had an off day.

I think most folk that have looked at Dan's wins and losses would definitely consider that based on them he is overrranked.

Hey, could of played a few more futures leading up to Wimbledon, maybe more likely get more points to get him into the top 250, get a Wimbledon MD WC and be even more overranked   wink

And you know what, it wouldn't be a crime !   And it's still my contention that as well as maybe giving him a Wimbledon MD appearance ( and why not go for it ! ), if he in the second half of the year then moved to Challengers it would start him off in a more healthy position for getting Challenger direct entries and then play consistently against higher level players, and maybe get some good say draws against WCs.

By the way, I am not trying to have some big arguement here.  I sense we both believe he should move to Challengers to really test himself and try and move his game on, and I've never pretended that his future wins aren't overranking him, I've said this on the forum before.  But if he in a way works the system and they overrank him, they overrank him. And if he can make this work for him, why not !  I have never say seen them as some waste of time.

It's just a question of timing and I could see and do see in my opinion good reasons for delaying more Challenger appearances just a bit, but not hugely signicantly timewise for a still young player.  As it is, he has seemed to move more to Challengers a bit later than you think he should of and a bit earlier than I think he should of.

PS :  If folk think I'm reading much more than is in Salmon's post here they are right.  We occasionally have given views about Dan over a few threads over time and I think can maybe now each see when a point is trying to be made  smile

Shame about the result and the scoreline, having been more comfortable getting through to the final i thought they might win this one
