RE: Naomi cavaday retiring?

What a strong and positive announcement. Well done to Ms Cavaday for all her accomplishments on the court, and well done to her for offering a safe space for young athletes to discuss issues that they might not be comfortable discussing otherwise. I hope her career as coach and mentor is a really successful one.

Very sad to hear this.....only seems like yesterday that I was holding my breath during that great match against Hingis....I still remember telling my wife that this was an English teenager about to beat Hingis.....but alas....still.....great memories that I am grateful for....thanks Naomi and best wishes in your new adventure!!!!

Some people might also reflect upon the wisdom of rude remarks about female athletes' physical conditioning, too.

An uncorroborated claim has been posted TF that Naomi is on the qualifying list for Birmingham? Of course, it could be confusion with Naomi Broady.

Its Broady, although I did see one post suggesting both Naomi's were there.

Maybe she wants one last hurrah? Seems a bit odd though, she couldn't qualify for wimbledon fully fit and when training, so if she did try for a one off can't see it going well.

A very honest interview, and sensitively handled by the journalist too:

I like OEM's tweet as well:Why we should always be careful what we say and how we say it about tennis players. This is a VERY hard sport http://bit.ly/l4OaPl

I said something much pithier a few posts back (and 2 weeks before Neil Harman), LOL.

Oh well, I suppose one has to be a real JOURNALIST to receive validation ...

Tweet offered as corroboration, Ratty. Can't be said too often. Also your comment was on the board, so people would automatically have seen it. But they might not have seen OEM's.

Laura Robson tweeted a few hours ago: @naomicavaday I noticed you're on the qualies list for Birmingham, making a comeback already? ;) Xx

Looks like both Naomi's may be on the list.

Just noticed that Naomi is on the acceptance list for Sharm on the 23rd of June.  Is this the start of a comeback, or maybe just some fun while on holiday?

Naomi plays Mel South today in the final of Team Tennis, in a tie which also has Harriet Dart vs Cornish and Katie O'Brien vs Fran S.

Naomi has already beaten Eden S and Laura D in the early rounds of the weekend.

I notice Anna F, who has been out for a long time, also played in TT this weekend, beating Julia Bone.

Naomi beat Mel 2 and 1; Harriet beat Steph and Katie beat Fran in 3. Cav and Harriet teamed up to beat Mel & Katie in the doubles; the Cumberland club won overall.
