Ha, ha thought you might raise a hand, Salmon but that was quick
If Dan steps up earlier, intermittently or more continually, with consequently less points in the bag. I fail to see particularly much more reason why he is going to win relatively many more Challenger points.
And if he doesn't win matches, he is falling from a less firm base so will logically fall to a lower point. As I also said the higher base point gives him more chance of main draw entries ( OK, arguably good to play challenger qualifying but only if he wins ).
To me, it is not the choice you put. You make assumptions in your 2 choices about subsequent possible rankings positions, and yes staying around WR 300 is clearly better than falling to WR 350. But I just simply fail to see how one can predict that would be the consequences of the two separate approaches. In fact I think it would be very unlikely.

I think it's more likely that he'll be Challenger level by losing to to IVDM than by beating Constantin Belot. It's impossible to say, really, but it seems way more likely.
Go on, someone call me a broken record.
But you know what I hate about Coxy's scheduling? The total lack of foresight. If the plan was to get him a rankings boost, why did he play Challenger qualies at the end of last year? Wouldn't it make more sense to shoot up and be able to enter AO qualies? Why do it now when there are no obvious targets to meet (I think Rolland Garros is a step too far this year and he should get a Wimbly QWC as it is)?
It's been the same for 4 years, but at least he's not wasting time playing Trofeo Bonfiglio anymore.

Chris and Molchanov lost 1 and 3, so a bit of a trouncing. Was always going to be hard one being a scratch pair against a team who have played with each other before and on their home turf.
At least Dan should be able to take some positives from the defeat - A tight game against a player who is 125 places above him and up near his Career High
