Yes, don't think we need to worry much about our Heather. After a slowish looking start in qualifying on the green clay an already pretty good looking effort against McHale now looks even better.
Just such a pity she couldn't maybe have got 72 points out of qualifying plus last 16 with a last 16 match against Hantuchova or Rodina ( looks as if she might have had a chance against Kleybonova ). I think a match with Daniela would have been interesting. It would also be great so see her fairly soon get a real big 100 plus rankings haul, more just because she has that ability and almost I feel deserves a real big one, though she has 80 points to defend in Eastbourne in June. Interesting to see how she plays on the red stuff before then.
Maybe not be too bad if McHale presses on here and in other places if Heather does look on McHale as a real target and someone she feels she is pretty much on a par with just now. That said, soo much better to have beaten her here though !

Hev is going to be fine despite this disappointing loss. As in life, you learn more from a failre/loss than you success/win. Hev is too young to let herself become obsessed by rankings. She'll be top within a year or so, and will probably go on to even greater stuff in due course.
Are we expecting her to do much on the clay this year?

Yes, more than any other female 18yr brit in recent memory. Would like to see her win a couple of rounds of qualy at the French.

Wow, greater than top. Just what greatness does await Heather ? I am guessing a number was missed out
Will be interesting to see how Heather goes on the red clay, which is far more tricky to play on than the green stuff. To me to be a successful clay court player primarily you have to be comfortable moving on the surface. You may have the game for clay but if you can't slide you are at a severe disadvantage. Luckily though there is only a small minority of players that truly love playing on this surface and so if Heather can avoid those she should do OK.
Sorry for going off topic but Ive just noticed the following from this weeks WTA Race Rankings;
68) Elena Baltacha 69) Anne Keothavong 70)Heather Watson.
Just goes to show how close our top 3 women have performed this year. The clay season could be interesting as I would say Anne plays the best on the dirt, followed by Heather and finally Bally, who has always struggled on this surface.
