Another Brit finalist: Morgan had a bit of a tussle with Daniel, but eventually got past him in three, 2-66-3 7-6(9)! The identity of his opponent is not yet known (Rochette or his doubles partner, Marrai).
Excellent news - he is 2-5 in Finals, having won his first one in Italy in 2006 and his last one, also in Madrid last September, and lost the five in between.

SF: Morgan Phillips WR 494 beat (Q) Taro Daniel (JPN) WR 861 by 6-2 3-6 7-6(8)
FI: Morgan Phillips WR 494 v (5) Matteo Marrai (ITA) WR 434 (CH 279 in 2008)
Marrai had an even more topsy-turvy semi than Morgan, eventually beating top seed Rochette 6-3 0-6 7-6(4) - they have met three times before, all in early rounds - Morgan won their first meeting 6-1 6-7(3) 6-3 on clay in 2009, Marrai won the second 6-1 7-6(3) also on clay in Monza Challenger qualifying in 2010 and then the Italian also won their last meeting a few weeks ago in Portugal on outdoor hard 6-3 1-6 6-4.

I'm clearly not having a good day! I found the result on the TeniSpain site & managed to get the result of the tie-break the wrong way round: Morgan took it by 9-7!

It does say 9-7 on the tenispain summary page for the tournament, but 10-8 on the drawsheet on both the tenispain and ATP sites, which is why I went with the latter. That really is a bit of a tenis pain!

Morgan wins his second Futures title in Madrid in less than a year! It will see him climb back into the GB top 10 on Monday week, dislodging Chris Eaton (a week after he dislodges David Rice from the GB top 10 this coming Monday) unless of course Chris does well enough in Johannesburg to stop him.
FI: Morgan Phillips WR 494 beat (5) Matteo Marrai (ITA) WR 434 by 1-6 6-1 6-4
N.B. That's from the tenispain front page, the drawsheet hasn't been updated on ATP, TS or ITF yet, so the exact scoreline may be subject to change!
