RE: Week 13 Challengers - Barranquilla, Colombia - $35K+H (Hard)

Very dissapointing from James not to win the 2nd set considering being up a double break. Needs to start scoring some points soon or face a massive slide in the rankings come Wimbledon

Seems like Ward's problem is that he is getting tight in the final set, that's now the 4th match in his last 6 (excluding DC) in which he has lost the final set either 5-7, or 6-7. He did beat Jaziri 8-6 in the decider in the DC tho.

Well, why the disbelief face then   wink

Very disappointing to lose the second set from  * 4 - 1 with 2 breaks but a very poor 33% second serve in % in that set seemed to ultimately allow too much pressure on his serve.

Wardy: "Lost 2 n 5. Was 5-3 up in second and made to many mistakes- credit to him he fought well!"

Sounds like a fair assessment from the way the live scores went!

Well, if you just count what folk have earned since after Wimbledon last year, Dan Cox is slightly ahead of James with noone else very close.   Evo, who is showing pleasingly better form, would be 3rd ( in the race for 2nd )

2.  Dan Cox         166

3.  James Ward    161

4.  Dan Evans       123

So effectively what they add from here until Wimbledon will determine the no 2 then.

As for year end, who knows  confuse

We should encourage folk in UK events to tweet as quickly as James did here.  It doesn't so much matter in places where we have more accessible scores lke Colombia  hmm.gif

Shame for James, although this was always going to be a tough match against someone in pretty decent form. By the way the ATP list this tournament as being on Clay and not Hard

sometimes you wonder if having the 2nd break is always as good as it sounds, esp for the lower ranked guys who are maybe more susceptible to momentum swings than the top players.

hard luck for James here though, hopefully he can pick up something next week.

Still should nearly always though be winning a men's challenger set from  * 4 - 1 with 2 breaks.

In this case though given how the first set had gone and given James' very poor first serve accuracy he was still at some risk.  Still very disappointing.

i know they should but it would be interesting to see the stats on how many times they don't. however i don't think even the great stat king has access to that kind of info.
But we know it happens, and we'd probably agree it happens more than it should. Ok we're over the moon when we see a Brit do it to someone else but it still counts doesn't it.
