Damn!!

I think Laura is easily capable of winning one of these Challengers, I thought maybe this was going to be it after she beat the no.2 seed so emphatically.   I hope she recovers quickly.

Dicko at the Fail says:

"I'm told Laura Robson retired with stomach muscle twinge in China. Not serious but out of next week. Plays in Europe later this month."

That's relatively good news, given the possible alternative reasons for the retirement.

Good and bad news.
Not serious but still another separate injury. Wise to retire though given what happened at the HC.

Yes, kind of good news that it wasn't a reoccurence of the leg issue.

She has maybe learned not to take chances so hopefully she stopped before doing any damage that will keep her out too long, although it seemed bad enough anyway that she was struggling to win points during the short course of the match.  So, we will see.

If she can be back in a few weeks all good. Remember she is still age resticted for the number of tournaments she can play before her 18th birthday next January so in a way, as long as no more real issues, she will be just playing them more together in the second half of the season, but can easily still basically play her quota without playing say too many than is wise successively

Anyway, those 2 weeks have encouraged that all's still pretty good in the Laura tennis world, just needs really to avoid more injury disruptions, play regularly and I am sure she will then win good matches and move her ranking sharpish in an upward direction. I was nearly going to say just needs a break, but maybe that's not the wisest phrase  !

When's the French Open qualifying entry list date and how's Laura looking rankingswise against the normal sort of French Open cut-off ?

I see Steven's top 25 table has her predicted to rise to WR 220 in Monday's rankings, she then has just 1 point due to come off on 11/04 and 46 on 25/04 ( which is hopefully too late for the qualifying entry list ? )

This is how I see it, sadly the 46 points will come off as the qualifying list will be based upon the rankings as at 25/04 ( quali lists come out 3 weeks before qualies start for grand slams ). Cut off last year was 217 or thereabouts, so unless she gets awarded a WC she won't be playing there.

Cheers, Phil.  That doesn't work out well.  Assuming no replacement points by 25/04 ( and that seems a fair assumption ) then Laura looks like falling to maybe just outside the top 250.
