Well I was right about it being a long match, and thankfully the right result. I think its the third set scoreline which impresses me most, having dropped the first set you would expect a fightback in the second, but to sustain into the final set is proof to me that after a sluggish start she dominated the match in the last two sets and arguably was more impressive than last week. If Maza was here to comment he might even describe it as a smashing ;) Quarter final match will be much tougher than it looks on paper, as her opponent though ranked outside the top 300 hasn't dropped a set so far this week and his beaten 2 very good yardsticks in getting this far. Also Laura will be expected to win a position she doesn't generally relish. If she plays at her best/ near her best she wins anything else probably will result in defeat.
Full result was a win by 3 & 5. And no, JC, it was only a QF, not a SF! They will take on the Chinese WC pair, Chen Liang & Ran Tian (there must be a joke in those names somewhere...!), in the SF.
* A belated well done to Laura for her valiant efforts today!
Good chance to advance further too. I had a look at Lertcheewakarn's activity this year which was rather impressive so Mijacika beating her looks pretty good, though I did notice that Letcheewakarn did have a pretty bad looking defeat just last week.
The most important thing, as so often particularly in the occasional randomish world of women's tennis is look after your own side and play near your best, and things coming along pretty well it seems for Laura just now.
And thats that Laura lost 1-4 retired. What a shame, I wonder whether playing the two matches yesterday, put extra strain on the leg. This is of course a complete guess and it could be an unrelated matter.
