Looks a decent effort on the face of it from Bally, so much closer than Doha. If she had just managed to hold serve and get back to 4 - 4. But Zak just seemed to keep her nose in front generally all through and saw it home quite clearly in the last couple of games.
Not a bad effort, but still can't get past R2. Clay court season to come will provide a different challenge and slightly concerned about the niggly injuries she keeps picking up. Overall though a solid first quarter of the year for Bally without the same level of ranking points earned. My best guess is that she will just retain GB no1 spot at the end of the year.
Elena has anyway edged ahead in the "big 3" battle re points this year.
1. Elena 269
2. Heather 265
3. Anne 260
Feels it has been very much Bally and Heather, but Anne of course got that big 160 points haul from qualifying and winning one round at the Aussie Open.
Next is Naomi B, back on 84 points. Started the year so well, went missing for a couple of weeks after a little break, but has looked better again this week, though has lost 7 - 5 in the 3rd to Mel today.
