Week 12 - Challenger - Bath (hard) - $42,500 - doubles

Decided to start a separate thread for the doubles because of the number of Brit pairs involved in the draw:

R1:  (4) Jamie Delgado & Jonny Marray vs Karol Beck & Pavol Cervenak (SVK/SVK)
R1:  Yves Allegro & Andreas Beck (SUI/GER) vs David Rice & Sean Thornley
R1:  Chris Eaton & Josh Goodall vs (3) Nicolas Mahut & Edouard Roger-Vasselin (FRA/FRA)
R1:  George Bastl & Joe Sirianni (SUI/AUS) vs Dan Smethurst & Marcus Willis

Interestingly, no WCs!  The top seeds are Dustin Brown & Philipp Marx (GER/GER).  Dan S & Marcus should at least have the beating of the "wrinklies" on the energy front... wink

At the risk of jumping the gun a bit, good news for Delgo & Jonny M:  they're out, beaten 7-5 6-7(6) [6-10 - I think!  The score disappeared off the screen so quickly after the match finished that I didn't have a chance to note it down! ashamed ] by Lammer & Mecir!  Wish I knew how Chris & Josh had fared.  Their match was just getting under way as I logged off at work to come home.  It's an absolute disgrace that the top Challenger of the week can't provide live scores, yet Morocco can!  mad.gif   frustrated.gif Just to add insult to injury, the women's singles & doubles main draws are STILL not up on the LTA site, yet the ITF had them up 2-3 hours ago.... steaming.gif   What are those plonkers playing at????

Another agonisingly close one:  Chris & Josh lost by 6-4 3-6 [8-10]. hmm

As reported by Josh on the singles thread, Dan S & Marcus Willis lost to the oldies by 1-5 retired. cry

QF:  (4) Jamie Delgado & Jonny Marray vs Olivier Charroin & Andreas Siljeström (FRA/SWE)

The outstanding R1 match between David Rice/Sean Thornley & Yves Allegro & Andreas Beck takes place tomorrow.  I'd love to be proved wrong, but given David's & Sean's inexperience at this level, I have a nasty suspicion Allegro & Beck will have too much for them. hmm  If they do prove me wrong, they'll face the highest-seeded pair left in the competition, Nicolas Mahut & ERV (3), who definitely will be too strong.

I'd been wondering where Skupski was this week, he tweeted today that he has had his appendix out and will be sidelined for around a month.

All credit to the Challenger greenhorns.  They pushed the old hands all the way:

R1:  Yves Allegro & Andreas Beck (SUI/GER) defeated David Rice & Sean Thornley by 1-6 6-3 [10-5]! cry

Delgo & Jonny are flying the Brit tennis flag, too biggrin :

SF:  Andrej Martin & Jürgen Zopp (SVK/EST) lost to (4) Jamie Delgado & Jonny Marray by 2-6 6-4 [7-10] smile

And it's the "auld enemy" in the final:

F:  (4) Jamie Delgado & Jonny Marray vs Yves Allegro & Andreas Beck (SUI/GER)

Yves tweeted:

"Won 76 75 today! Final tomorrow vs Delgado Marray! Lost already 3 times to them this year!If anyone has some tips for us, let me know!! wink.gif

I was very tempted to tweet back "Just keep doing the same thing, it works for us" wink

It's good to see Allegro took our advice even without me offering it wink.gif

That's the third Challenger doubles title of the year for those two smile.gif - it also means that with Eaton & Slabba then Eaton & Goodall x 3 winning all the home Futures doubles titles this year, Brits have won every men's doubles title on offer in the UK so far in 2011.

(If only we could have the same success in the version the rest of the world actually cares about ... cry)
