I see the dreaded Russian "dangerous floater" (& last week's Bath Futures winner, albeit by a walkover!), Marta Sirotkina, is starting to make waves again at the higher level: not only did she qualify for this event, but she beat her fellow qualifier, Leticia Costas, this morning by 6-1 7-6(6) (she had chances to finish it off before the TB!). Even though her opponent in the second round is another fellow qualifier, Anna-Lena Grönefeld, & one who has just seen off Anne Kremer, the third seed, by 6-0 6-7(5) 7-5 (she should've had it wrapped up in the second set!), I expect her to account for her, too!
Thats a big call, the bookies will most likely make ALG a big favourite. I would think ALG will edge it.
Ah, well, y'see, Phil, I'm not a betting woman, so have the luxury of being able to stick my neck out like that & risking ending up only with egg on my face, not a gaping hole in my purse!

I was looking at Naomi's section of the draw at thinking she has a good record against a lot of those players in her half. On further inspection she has won her last match against Mel, Nicola, Piter, Floris and Voegele and has only lost to Mel (1-0 against others).

RESPECT. I looked at the odds before the match started and the Russian girl was 13/8 so Bet365 were way off the mark as well.
1 set all in Naomis/Mels match, but Naomi certainly looks the stronger having won the second 6-1 and knowing that she has a good record in coming back from dropping the first set.

Luckily I am (a betting person, not a woman), and at 13/8 it seemed good odds. Kerchingggg!
A bit to my surprise and a small amount against my pocket, Mel edges Naomi out 7-5 in the third set TB. Congrats to SMC for taking a bit out of the Bet365 coffers earlier on.
