Bit more like it from Naomi   smile     Now be interesting to see how she competes in the main daw.

As Steven indicated, I did think Naomi was pretty consistent generally last year.

Her year didn't really go as well as I had hoped, considering how she came back to end the previous year, but I did think she found a pretty consistent level.  Just really had a fallow period for wins in May June time, generally losing to some lower ranked players on clay in the Far East and to high ranked players back home on grass.

At the moment, I'm just much less sure what her level is.

Hoped Tara might get a win here and obviously disappointing to have had a MP, albeit against the serve.

But back from injury just last week, she hammered a top 500 player yesterday and has taken a top 250 player all the way today, albeit the Spanish player plays much more often, and has been more successful, on clay.

Encouraging.

(4)Anna Floris (ITA) v Lenka Jurikova (SVK)
(wc)Katy Dunne (GBR) v (wc)Nicola George (GBR)

(Q)Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino (ESP) v (wc)Lucy Brown (GBR)
(8)Stefanie Voegele (SUI) v Irena Pavlovic (FRA)

(5)Liana-Gabriela Ungur (ROU) v Eirini Georgatou (GRE)

(JE)Timea Babos (HUN) v (Q)Marta Domachowska (POL)

On the face of it seems like a good draw for the Brits, and a big opportunity for Katy Dunne/ Nicola George to chalk up some dcent points.

Another very decent draw in general following the men's main draw.

And as for the WC vs WC, Christmas has come very early this year !  The WC in was great for each ( and perhaps rather unexpected ) but then to be drawn against each other..

Got to make Nicola favourite and 8 points would lift her from 17 points to 25 points and up about a 100 places from her current WR 847.  What a target too for Katy, having been given a WC into a 25K, be interesting to see how she performs.

Quite what Nicola G did to deserve a wc here I don't know... I know she's only young, but still seems odd. Would like her to get the win tho. Katie looks fairly good for a QF, and Mel should beat Barthel - was much the better player in losing to her at Notts last year, just had a bit of a meltdown.

Isn't this Katy's first senior tournament?

It seems that they just gave 3 WCM to the highest ranked British alternates, and WCQ to the next five. A slightly strange way of doing it, but I guess its quite fair.

Yes. It looked like a case of being thrown in the deep end for her debut, given an average draw, but she has ended up with a draw which would be regarded as very good in a 10K never mind a 25K

Naomi 3-2 up, but has taken Beltrame to deuce on both her service games and had several break points in the last game.

From 3-2, Beltrame held, then broke Naomi's serve. Naomi then broken back straight away, and then held, so we're now back on serve at 5-4*
