So if had been say 2-6 6-3 1-6 which would have resulted in the same number of total games won and lost would that have been a smacking, or is it just purely because one of the sets was 6-0.

In your hypothetical scenario, the losing opponent would have won the middle set. This would have given a different outlook on the match. Whereas, what actually happened was that the losing player lost 9 of the last 12 games. Thus, smacking, in my opinion.
